Biography
Yakup Yener was introduced to photography in the 1990s during his high school years. What began with a non-professional camera evolved into a conscious and sustained practice from the early 2000s onward. Since then, he has approached photography not merely as a tool for visual recording, but as a way of documenting and interpreting moments that carry a potential narrative.
He graduated from Gaziantep University with a degree in Computer Programming, Anadolu University in Public Administration, Anadolu University in Photography and Camerawork, and Atatürk University Faculty of Communication, Department of Advertising. He is currently pursuing a Master’s degree with thesis in Visual Communication Design at Hasan Kalyoncu University.
A member of the Gaziantep Photography Art Association (GAFSAD) since 2008, Yener has been serving as the President of the Association’s Board of Directors for the past two terms. While his work primarily focuses on nature and wildlife photography, he also continues to produce documentary and story-driven photographs centered on the relationship between people and their environments.
Throughout his photographic practice, Yener has placed strong emphasis on experimental approaches, producing works in areas such as high-speed photography, water drop photography, and light painting. He has also delivered presentations and shared his experience in these fields. The works presented in this exhibition document bird species in and around Gaziantep, focusing on the quiet yet enduring presence of nature.
