Gaziantep Birds

The photographs presented in this exhibition were taken entirely within the provincial borders of Gaziantep and focus on the rich yet often overlooked birdlife of the region. The exhibition consists of 30 photographs documenting bird species in their natural habitats, shaped by long-term observation and field experience rather than isolated encounters.

Among the documented species are records of particular significance for Türkiye. One of these is the Garganey (Spatula querquedula), which was confirmed to have bred in Gaziantep for the first time this year. Another is the Black-tailed Godwit (Limosa limosa), a species that has been observed in Türkiye only in Gaziantep. These records highlight the ecological importance of the region and its critical role within migratory routes.

The Gaziantep Birds exhibition is a collaborative project by Yakup Yener, Adsız Günebakan, and Ömer Işık, all members of the Gaziantep Photography Art Association (GAFSAD). The photographers are also active contributors to the Gaziantep Bird Community, where they share field observations and knowledge. Most photographic excursions were carried out together, reflecting a collective approach based on continuity, cooperation, and shared experience in the field.

The photographs were first presented as a printed exhibition at Gaziantep Sanko Park on World Bird Day. Now presented online, this selection aims to draw attention to the bird diversity of Gaziantep and to offer a visual testimony to the quiet yet enduring presence of nature.
