Biography
He was born in Adapazarı in 1946.
He lived in Ankara after 1960.
He graduated from Ankara, Economic and Commercial Sciences Academy in 1972 and worked at the Turkish Electricity Authority.
He continued his photography work, which he started in 1978 and continued at home, as a member of Ankara Photography Artists Association (AFSAD). Between 1981 and 1985, he took charge in the management of the association. He took part in the editorial board of the association's magazine called "Photography".
Apart from AFSAD, he is also a member of Adana Photography Art Association (AFAD) and is a founding member of the Photographic Art Institute (FSK).
In 2009, he was deemed worthy of being an “AFSAD Honorary Member”.
He resigned from his duty at TEK in June 1980 and started working as a photographer at the British Archaeological Institute, where he received an offer on the same day. He worked there for 15 years.
In this period, besides his work, he created many and high-quality works in the art dimension of photography. He received the title of "Artist of FIAP" from the International Federation of Art Photography (FIAP) in 1993.
He opened his first personal exhibition in London in 1985.” The Photographer” ( UK ) magazine published his photographs accompanied by an article. The exhibition was watched by visiting UK universities for nearly 3 years. Later, it was opened in Ankara, Istanbul, Izmir. He opened his second exhibition in 1988 at the Mavi Ev Art Gallery in Ankara with his photographs containing body details. The name of the exhibition he opened in Akpınar Art Gallery in 1990 was “Longing for Water”.
His intense productivity has turned into 10 personal exhibitions by the year 2011. These exhibitions are; It was opened in Adana, Ankara, Athens, Bandırma, Bursa, Çanakkale, Istanbul, Nicosia, London, Mersin. He has participated in so many group exhibitions, and has been a member of many slide shows, interviews, seminars, conferences and selection committees.
He started to write articles at the end of the working hours of the archaeological excavations in Adıyaman, where he went for 15 years with the British Archaeological Association. are memories, stories and photo essays; then by continuing the act of writing with the photograph; In the evening, Sadness-1999 Again, Two Lives Check Master One and a Half Plenty of Painful Negative- 2003, Black and White Tales - 2007, Hidden Letters -2011, Sack-2011 have turned into books.
Due to the fact that the excavation area in Tille village of Adıyaman was a dam site, he was dismissed from his job some time after 1992, when he went for the last time after it started to hold water.
After a search, it didn't take long, he did advertising-promotion photography.
In addition to his knowledge, experience and knowledge in the field of photography, his reputation has enabled him to give photography courses at universities. In this context; He gave photography lessons in 1993 Gazi, 1999 Hacettepe, Bilkent University between 2000 and 2004, and Başkent Universities between 2005 and 2017.
On the other hand. He gave lectures on “portrait” by teaching at the workshops created at AFSAD.
An example of the phrase "too many to count" is the awards it has received. However, among these, we should mention the "Abdi İPEKÇİ Peace and Friendship" award (1990) and the Şinasi BARUTÇU Cup (19 1993).

Photographs of Tuğrul ÇAKAR are featured in the 9th album of the "Turkish Photographers Library" series of Antartist publishing.
In addition to these albums and books, his photographs and articles have appeared in many magazines, monthly bulletins, books and catalogues.
Tuğrul ÇAKAR passed away on the island of Crete on July 23, 2017.
