Shadow

Shadow saves the light from its nakedness, rawness, even loneliness. Shadow covers emotions, thoughts, and psychology beyond a physical condition in many languages. Even to know the light is to know the shadow. SHADOW is the hidden theme of art.

Ernst Gombrich emphasizes the relation of perception of shadow concept in ancient greek with philosophy and religion and says that, “Shadows are not part of the real world.” 

He says that, “We can't touch them, we can't embrace them.” Therefore, in daily language, the shadow metaphor is used when describing something that is non-physical. 

Ernst Gombrich says that, “We continue to live as a shadow after death”, again referring to Ancient Greek and claims that the concrete world perception changes at this point. “...the presence of a shadow indicates the body of an object because what has a shadow is real.’’

İzmir Photography Art Association (IFOD) has directed its experience that has been accumulated, since its foundation in 1986, to constantly seek new social gatherings. Traditional Exhibitions, first projected in 1994, are founded in order to meet this requirement. 

Traditional exhibitions are a type of exhibitions that take place for the first time in our country.

The exhibition consists only of the works of IFOD members and the selection committee of 5 people, four of whom are IFOD members. This year's evaluations were made with the selection of IFOD charter member Tayfun Kocaman, one of the valuable artists of Turkish Photography Timurtaş Onan, esteemed members of IDOD and photograph artists Arif Ziya Tunç, Kazım Çapacı, Alpaslan Berik, and Gökhan Ünal. 

One of the topics suggested by IFOD members every year is determined as the topic of that year with the participation of all IFOD members and voting procedure. The theme of the traditional exhibition, which will be held for the 27th time this year, was determined as SHADOW by IFOD members.

The exhibition is going to be held in Izmir firstly and then, it will continue until the end of 2021 at the cities which have photograph associations.
