Biography

Born in Safranbolu, Gülcan Acar is an Electronics and Communications Engineer. She still works as a photographer at the Ministry of Culture and Tourism. She served as Vice President and General Secretary at the Photography Art Institution of Ankara, of which she is a member.

Traveling around 70 countries to document how geography, climate and traditions shape human life and urban architecture, Acar took part in many projects that contributed to the promotion of Cultural Heritage in Turkey and Safranbolu.

She participated in many national and international photography exhibitions and competitions won awards and were a member of the jury. She received the title of AFIAP in 2011. She published the books "Nemrud", "The Colors of Time in Safranbolu", "Yellow Hot Labor" and “A winter’s tale Çağrankaya Snow Walk”. She exhibited personal photography exhibitions called "My Essence, My Word, My Eye: Safranbolu", "Yellow Warm Labor", "Day Dreams", "Melodic Figures", "A Winter's Tale: Çağrankaya Snow Walk" in many provinces at home and abroad (Tatarstan, Spain, Croatia) opened. She was the subject of the documentary "Anadolu's Eye: Gulcan ACAR", prepared by TRT, which tells the story of a city through the eyes of a photographer.
