Biography
• Alp Can graduated from the School of Medicine at Ankara University in 1987. He acquired the title of Histology and Embryology Specialist in 1990 and promoted to associate professorship in 1996, full professor in 2003. He is the author of more than 110 scientific articles and 7 books. His citation number is around 4450 and h factor is 30.
• Dr. Can has been observing the underwter enviroment from the age of five. He gained his scuba diver certificate in 1990 and started underwater photography in 1996.
• He has opened 16 personal exhibitions and participated in 21 group exhibitions so far.
• Dr. Can won 12 awards in national and international photography competitions; many of his works were found worthy to be exhibited. Finally, in the international championship held in the Philippines in 2017, he took fourth place in the world in the fish portrait category.
• Between 1999-2008 years, he was the member of Turkish Underwater Sports Federation Scientific Committee. In 2004, he released a photo album named Living the Sea, which consists of underwater photographs; Atlas of Benthic Fishes of Turkey in 2005, and finally in 2016 AQUAgraphs. Lights Written in Water.
• He performed more than 2500 dives in various coastal and inland water ecosystems of Turkey and the world, examined the relations of sea creatures with ecosystem.
• Between 2010 and 2020, he was a board member of Ankara University Underwater Archaeological Research and Application Center and participated in the photography works of Klazomenai underwater excavations near Izmir Urla. He carried out photographing studies of underwater flora and fauna in TEOS Ancient City Harbor in İzmir-Sığacık.
• Dr. Can is a member of Ankara University Fisheries Research and Application Center Board.
• He has a permanent exhibition of Mediterranean fish fauna at the Natural History Museum in Dubrovnik, Croatia, Dr. Can is a consultant for underwater photography studies of the International Union for Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources (IUCN), which is based in Spain and is the world's oldest and largest environmental organization.
